Very few give the buyer any way to check those numbers. Why Do Lithium Battery Claims Need Verifying at All?

Check 1: Can the Battery Count Its Own Cycles?
The claim: "3,000 / 5,000 / 6,000 cycle life."
The problem: cycle life is the single most common specification in the market and the single hardest to verify. If the battery has no way to display how many cycles it has used, the number on the datasheet can never be checked by you — not at purchase, not during warranty, not in a dispute. Laboratory cycle testing is neither practical nor affordable for an individual buyer.
The check: ask whether the battery shows a live cycle count on its own display. If a manufacturer builds a genuinely high-cycle cell into a battery, it has every reason to let you see the count — the number protects the manufacturer as much as the buyer.

Check 2: Does the BMS Have Active or Passive Balancing?
The claim: "Smart BMS."
The problem: over thousands of cycles, individual cells inside a pack drift out of balance. Once they do, the weakest cell decides the backup you get, and the pack's usable life collapses well before the advertised cycle figure. A battery advertising 6,000 cycles with no balancing cannot deliver full backup for 6,000 cycles — the two claims contradict each other.
The check: ask specifically whether the BMS performs active or passive cell balancing. "Smart BMS" alone is not an answer.

A hardware-BMS battery is not a bad battery — it is rugged, low-maintenance and cheaper. It becomes a problem only when its fixed cut-off values do not match your inverter's. Then the battery either never charges fully or cuts off early, and the buyer concludes the battery is defective.
The check: before buying, compare the battery's charge and discharge voltage specification against your inverter's charge and cut-off settings. If they do not match, you need a configurable battery.

Check 4: Is the Cycle Life Rated at Full Capacity?
The claim: "5,000 cycles."
The problem: a cycle figure means little without the load it was measured at. A 2.5kWh battery should deliver its rated power for the rated duration — 2.5kW for roughly one hour. If a pack can only sustain half that load, it is not a 2.5kWh battery in practice, and its cycle rating was measured under conditions you will never use it in. This is the C-rating question, and it is the reason some lithium batteries disappoint on heavy loads like an air conditioner or a 1.5HP motor.
The check: ask what continuous discharge current the pack supports, and confirm the cycle figure is rated at that current — not at a gentler one.

Check 5: Does Your Battery Capacity Match Your Inverter Capacity?
This is not a manufacturer question — it is the mistake more than half of lithium battery complaints come from, and no manufacturer can fix it for you.
If you install a 2.5kWh battery on a 4kW inverter and then run a 4kW load, the battery's BMS will cut off at its current limit and the inverter will shut down. Buyers read this as a faulty battery. It is the opposite: it is the protection working exactly as intended.
The rule: the battery bank's capacity should be at least equal to the inverter's capacity. A 3kW inverter needs a battery rated 3kW or higher.

Check 6: What Is the Warranty — and Is It the Same Number as "Life"?
The claim: "15 year life."

Check 7: Can You Verify the Manufacturer Itself?
The claim: "BIS certified", "ISO certified", "India's No.1".
The problem: certification claims are frequently stated without the licence number that makes them checkable, and are sometimes applied to product categories the licence does not cover. A certificate covers a specific standard, a specific product category and a specific list of models — nothing else.
The check: ask for the licence number and the IS standard, then verify it on the BIS website. If a manufacturer cannot give you the number, the claim is not a claim.
