How Do You Verify a Solar Manufacturer’s Claims?
Four checks, in order of how much they reveal:
1. The BIS licence number and its model list. A licence covers specific listed models. Ask which of the models you are buying appears on it. A manufacturer with a licence can answer in seconds.
2. The factory address, and whether you can visit. Manufacturers have addresses that resolve to industrial areas. Trading operations often list an office.
3. Repairability in India. Ask whether board-level repair exists domestically and what the turnaround is. This separates manufacturing from importing.
4. Published specifications and prices. A manufacturer knows its own numbers and publishes them. Gated pricing and vague specifications usually indicate a reseller.
Why Does Made-in-India Matter Beyond Sentiment?
Three practical reasons, none of them patriotic:
Repair, not replace. Domestic manufacture means spare boards and components exist in the country. An imported unit with no local part supply becomes a replacement purchase when a single component fails.
